Through real-world case studies, this session will explore the financial, governance, and family considerations that influence enterprise success before, during, and long after a transition, and discuss how advisors can help families build financial strength across generations by aligning planning with the family's long-term goals rather than any predetermined outcome.

"Software Technology Group (STG) - A Tale of Three Transformations"

Presented by Camille Cornaby, Crystal Peterson and Craig Christensen Software Technology Group (STG) and moderated by Brad Fisher, Scalable Leadership

Jeff Soderberg and his wife Camille Cornaby took the First Leap when they founded STG in 1996. They established the company to provide custom software development and staff augmentation services, which refers to an outsourcing model that provides full-time, highly skilled software engineers to temporarily embed within clients' existing in-house tech teams.

The first STG transformation took place in 2012 when Jeff Soderberg stepped back from day-to-day leadership due to serious health issues. Crystal Peterson assumed the role of CEO at that time.

Crystal Peterson and her team took the Second Leap when they shifted STG from a founder-centric Stage One structure to a scalable Stage Two structure where the Leadership Team runs the business and the CEO leads the leadership team. This sparked substantial reorganizations and transformed the way STG plans and manages the business.

The STG team has executed a major strategic transformation since the 2022 / 2023 timeframe. In addition to its traditional software project delivery and staff augmentation services, STG now provides world-class strategic technology advice and an expanded range of services that includes fractional CTO outsourcing, offshore and nearshore development resources, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, dev op’s, and other leading-edge capabilities. The company has also expanded its geographic footprint and transformed its branding, marketing, communications, and sales.

This three-step evolution has enable STG to survive and thrive during a period of tremendous change and turmoil that today is devastating many of the companies that compete with STG.

This working-lunch session will give AFHE attorneys and family-enterprise advisors a practical, privacy-first view of how AI is already affecting legal and advisory work. The session will start with the questions lawyers naturally ask first - confidentiality, hallucinations, data leakage, privilege, tool selection, and human review - then move into practical examples of legal-specific and enterprise-grade AI workflows for research framing, document review, drafting, meeting preparation, transcript follow-up, and knowledge retrieval.

"Raising Children in Affluence: The Four Lessons of Wealth"

Although American parents and grandparents are currently raising their descendants in the financially wealthiest time in human history, much of the teaching and education about wealth is haphazard at best and harmful at waorst. Too often, heirs raised in affluence learn how to enjoy the consumption of wealth without gaining adequate knowledge about the more critical issues surrounding it. This presentation focuses on the four essential lessons of wealth that should be taught to every person: 1. The Trappings of Wealth, 2. The Trials of Wealth, 3. The Tools of Wealth, and 4. The Transcendence of Wealth. It provides practical ways to teach these lessons, ensuring that successive generations have the perspective, tools, and insights needed to maximize the opportunities that wealth can offer. Additionally, it discusses methods for families to provide their children and grandchildren with greater levels of clarity and authenticity.

Entrepreneur and investor Wade Eyerly joins Chad Blackburn for a fireside conversation about first-generation wealth, family identity, and the challenge of raising builders rather than beneficiaries. Drawing on Wade's experience building companies in highly regulated industries, including aviation and insurance, the discussion will explore how families protect their name, define operating principles, transfer judgment, and teach responsible risk when the next generation has access to family capital and a real safety net. The session is designed to give AFHE attorneys and family-enterprise advisors practical language and questions they can use with client families around stewardship, governance, capital allocation, and next-generation entrepreneurship.
